Valentine’s Day Pastry

For Valentine’s Day my daughter and I decided to both make a special dessert treat for our respective sweeties…

Ingredients:

Method:

  • Roll out pie crust on a lightly floured work surface (My marble board works perfectly for this)
  • Open envelope and use it as a template to cut out the shape of the pastry envelope
  • Fill the pastry with pie filling, being careful to not overfill
  • Fold pastry envelope
  • Brush with heavy whipping cream
  • Decorate with sugar (If desired)
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes in a large cast iron skillet lined with parchment paper
  • Let cool first, then remove to plate
The template laid out on the dough…

Almost ready to bake… Just need the heart on the one on the right.

Pastries brushed with heavy cream and ready to bake.

Fresh from the oven…
With only the heart sugared and a few stray granules. Ready to give to someone…
Ready to give to someone to brighten their Valentine’s Day!

I couldn’t waste the leftover pie filling and pastry scraps so I made a small cherry pie in a #3 Wagner Ware Sidney -O-

Ready to go in the oven
Not the prettiest but I can’t stand wasting food.
