Chocolate gravy is a very country dish that is loved by those who grew up with it. It is also popular in The South and can even be found in some restaurants. It is a hearty, warm and delicious treat but not something that one would want to eat too frequently since it isn’t exactly health food!
Ingredients:
(These are all approximate, adjust to your liking)
- 1/2 Cup Cocoa
- 1/2 Cup All-Purpose Flour
- 1 1/4 Cup Sugar
- 4 Cups Milk
- 2 Tbsp Softened Butter
- 2 tsp Vanilla
Method:
- Combine cocoa, sugar, and flour in a cast iron skillet or Dutch oven (Here is the modern version of the one I am using Lodge LCC3 Cast Iron Combo Cooker, Pre-Seasoned, 3.2-Quart)
- Whisk milk in
- Add butter and vanilla
- Cook over medium heat until it starts to thicken
- Cook and stir constantly until the butter is fully melted
- Serve over hot biscuits, toast, fried potatoes etc.
- Enjoy!
